KB, MB and pixels: which number should you change?
Separate file weight from image dimensions before editing application attachments.
Two measurements, two controls
Width and height count pixels. File size counts the data used to store those pixels and other information. Two images can both measure 200 × 230 pixels yet have different file sizes because their detail, format and compression differ.
Use the correct field
Enter width and height in the Image dimensions section. Enter the upload limit in Maximum size. In FormFile, 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. Other software may display binary units or round values, so numbers can look slightly different.
Work through an example
Suppose a portal asks for a 200 × 230 pixel JPEG below 50 KB. Choosing 50 KB alone does not set those dimensions. Set the format, both pixel fields and the byte limit, then check the three results together.
Avoid the wrong fix
Changing the filename does not change either measurement. Increasing dimensions can make edges less sharp without adding authentic detail. If the file is already within the permitted range, further compression may only reduce readability.
