Straighten a sideways or slanted document image
Use rotation for tilted text and understand when a new photograph is needed.
Distinguish two kinds of tilt
If every text line leans at the same angle, rotation may help. If the top of the document looks narrower than the bottom, the problem is perspective. Rotating alone will not make that distorted page rectangular.
Make a small correction
Load the image in Clean up a scan. Enter a small positive or negative Rotate / straighten value and inspect the preview. For a sideways page, use a quarter-turn value such as 90 or -90 degrees. Adjust until the text sits naturally.
Check the new edges
Rotation can introduce empty corners or move content close to the boundary. Inspect all four edges before applying a crop. In this tool, percentage cropping is applied before rotation, so keep that processing order in mind when trying another setting.
Preserve readability
Do not crop away page numbers, signatures or issuing details to make the sheet look neater. If perspective or blur remains severe, take a new straight-on photograph. Then create a separate final copy at the required size.
