Clean a light paper background without losing faint text
Use paper cleanup selectively on photographed documents.
Decide whether cleanup is useful
A slightly grey photograph of white paper can be harder to read. FormFile offers a cleanup option for nearly-white paper areas. It does not remove strong shadows, coloured scenery or every type of background automatically.
Inspect faint content first
Look for pencil notes, pale stamps, fine print and light-coloured ink. These may be important even when they are close in brightness to the paper. Keep the original alongside any processed copy.
Compare two results
Create one version with cleanup off and one with it on. Keep brightness and contrast changes modest so you can see the cleanup's effect. Compare the lightest meaningful marks and the darkest text at a larger zoom.
Choose accuracy over appearance
A white page is not an improvement if a stamp or note disappears. Use the uncleaned version, or retake the page in more even light, when preservation is uncertain. Confirm that the final PDF or image still includes every required piece of information.
