JPG and JPEG: do you need to convert?
Learn when a filename extension change is enough and when real conversion is needed.
The common distinction
JPG and JPEG are two filename extensions commonly used for JPEG image data. A file called photo.jpeg may contain the same type of image as photo.jpg. This differs from PNG, which uses a different file format.
If a portal asks for JPG
Check its instructions and validation message. For an actual JPEG image, using a .jpg extension may resolve a strict extension check. Keep the filename clear and avoid doubled endings such as photo.jpg.jpeg. FormFile's JPEG output uses a .jpg ending.
When conversion is necessary
If the original is PNG or WebP, changing the ending to .jpg does not convert the image. Open Convert image format, select JPEG and download the new result. The tool creates JPEG image data rather than merely changing the name.
Check more than the ending
The portal may also reject dimensions or a large byte count. After creating the JPG, check its width, height and required KB range. Keep the original if you need to try different settings later.
